If you want to look professional for business and not like a private school student wear a tie-clip. However, if you don’t know how to wear one, don’t wear one at all.
Wearing a tie-clip the wrong way will make you look worse than not wearing one.
So how do you wear a tie-clip?
- The tie clip should be positioned level to your nipples or a little bit above it (between the third and fourth button).
- The bar should never clip the entire width of the tie. It should leave a quarter of space. If you have a narrow tie, get a smaller tie-bar.
- The tie clip should be clipped not only to the tie but also to the shirt.
To clarify on these three points, if you wear a tie bar to high, it looks weird… Wear it too low, there’s no point in wearing one. It’s easy to wear one and if you’re lazy to count the number of buttons, just level the tie bar your nipples or slightly above it like stated above.
Here’s an example:
- Tie Clip
A tie clip should always leave some space for the tie and it looks really stupid if the clip covers the entire width of the tie. There are some tie clips that are bigger than normal so make sure to check the size of your tie-clip and the width of your tie.
TIP: A normal tie clip should measure around two to two and a half inches or 6 to 7 centimeters and this works for most neckties!
Finally, make sure you clip the tie to the shirt or there’s no point of having a tie clip. The whole point of having a tie clip is to keep the tie in place.
Wearing a tie clip looks intelligent and professional! It’s always the little things that make the most difference!
