How Should a Business Suit Really Fit?

It doesn’t matter if you have a 3,000 dollar Armani suit or a 300 dollar wool/polyester suit. If your suit doesn’t fit, you’re not going to look  nice.

A suit to quality standards should fit like a glove, which is somewhat tight (not loose) while being comfortable. Wearing a business suit that is either too large or too tight defeats the whole purpose of looking good wearing a suit.

Below is a photograph of me wearing two different suits. Guess which one fits right?

It’s all about fit when choosing a suit!
The suit on the left obviously looks better because it fits right. What’s more surprising is that the suit on the left is three hundred bucks cheaper than the suit on the right; all because of fit!

Precision Cut for Uniqueness!

A tailored suit will fit right because the suit is cut to your size. A major goal in why people like customized suits is that a custom tailored suit brings out the best physical features that are unique to the wearer. It doesn’t matter if you are fat, skinny, or average; a tailored suit overseen by a professional tailor will be customized towards your physical appearance while hiding to a certain degree any physical disadvantages (i.e. small shoulders, protruding stomach, shortness, and etc.)

Personally, I like to have my suit a bit snug than loose because I like a precision cut custom suit. Another reason for me always getting a custom order suit is that I am quite muscular with broad shoulders. As a person with broad shoulders, I do not want to appear threatening towards potential clients during business negotiations; therefore, with ordering a custom suit, I can always request that my tailor slim down the shoulders a bit to appear non-threatening.

Custom Suit Disadvantage?

The only disadvantage I know with ordering  a customized suit is that it will cost more rather than a suit off the rack. A custom suit can cost a couple hundred dollars more but if you take care of your suit and your weight, a suit of quality can last you many years.

The X factor for Dress Suits!

If the X on a suit is not that subtle, it is too tight!

Another overlooked problem are the gaps (divots) found in the shoulder. It is not supposed to dent while you stand at attention. A poor fitter suit will reveal divots and it just looks sloppy.

Divots reveals a number of problems.

1. Shoulder pads.

2. The armholes are too tight for the wearer preventing arms to move around.

3. Suit is too tight or really loose.

Whenever I see a person wearing a loose fitting business suit, it’s an impression of sloppiness. It’s either he borrowed a suit, didn’t have the cash to alter it, or lost a lot of weight due to health reasons. Anyhow, it doesn’t look intelligent and professional.

Remember, it’s the little things that make the most differences!

It’s a sad reality that people judge the way you dress. Those first impressions make a difference especially if you’re an ambitious person wanting to climb the ladder of success. It doesn’t matter who you are, it never hurts to dress professional right?

So get it right! A custom suit not only looks beautiful, it reveals your personalty and character.

The right fit can make a 300 dollar suit look like an expensive 1000 dollar suit.
